
Who is eligible for the roof replacement program?
- Genesee County residents that own and occupy a single-family home. Rentals, land contracts, mobile homes or manufactured homes are not eligible.
- Total household income cannot exceed 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) as determined by HUD. Click here for income chart.
What other eligibility criteria do I need to meet?
- Must have owned and occupied a home in Genesee County for at least one year.
- Must be current on mortgage payments.
- Must be current on property taxes.
- Must be current on homeowner’s insurance.
When can I apply for this program?*
- Applications are being accepted now. Genesee County residents can apply here. If you live in the City of Flint, apply here.
*Applications will be on a first-come, first-served basis until the funding is exhausted. Applications will no longer be accepted when funds are exhausted.
Is this a loan?
- Yes. A 5-year forgivable lien will be attached to the property. This is not a cash loan; the contractors will be paid on your behalf.
What happens if I sell my home before the 5 years is over?
- If homeowner sells or vacates the property before the 5-year requirement, then the loan must be repaid.
Who will replace my roof?
- Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission and Habitat for Humanity will bid and award the roof replacement projects to licensed and insured roofing contractors.
Can I pick the color of the shingles?
- Yes.
How many households will receive roof replacements?
- It is anticipated that approximately 100-115 homes will receive roof replacements county-wide.
